Why Everyone Should Have Renter's Insurance!
So last night I go to bed around 11. Fall asleep. Deep in REM mode. Suddenly I'm awaken by pounding on my door and the doorbell ringing. At first I'm disoriented, thinking that maybe it was Jason forgetting his key or something, but then it dawned on me that he's out of town working. So I pull myself out of bed and make it downstairs to see what the commotion is all about. There's a police officer standing at the door.... "You're neighbors' apartment is on fire. Please evacuate your apartment."
YIKES!!!
So I run back inside to find Vienna. I get her all packed up and we head outside (mind you I don't grab my keys, my purse, anything... the only thing I was worried about was the cat)
I get outside, and what do I see.... outside in the driveway the neighbors' car is on fire. Not a small fire.... the front of the car has flames shooting up to the eave of the garage. Not cool (but sort of). Thank God the police officer had exaggerated a bit when he told me the neighbor's apartment was on fire - if that car had been in the garage, there'd probably be a whole lot more damage!!
Here's a pic of what the car looks like today:
I live in an apartment that's more like a townhouse - they are eight unit buildings (4 upper, 4 lower) and there are garages that are attached. If this fire had been inside... man I don't want to think about it. Just glad I have renter's insurance!!!
Oh yeah, and this was at 3:30 AM!!! We didn't get to go back into our apartments until 4:15, and I got to wake up and go to work by 8. Fun times!
