Conspiracy of Fools

Ok, so I know I've been super MIA lately, but lots has happened, and just didn't have time to blog. Horrible, I know.

But I'm back, and ready to be a blogging babe once again :) The holiday season is fast approaching, and I'm trying to prepare myself for all the decorations and craziness that comes with it! I'm excited for Thanksgiving, because that means DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING DAY SALES are fast approaching! I love it! I know I'm nutty, but I definitely do not make it out for the super early sales. My sis and I usually make it out shopping around 8 or 9, when most of the psycho-shoppers have gotten then 50 cent DVD players and headed home. Much better to go a little later - however this year Sara has to work til noon, so we're going to try a little later of an expedition to the mall and shopping centers. I'll keep you posted to let you know if I survive.

In other news - I'm reading a new book - "Conspiracy of Fools," which is the story of Enron and how it all played out. Learning about the Enron scandal in ALL of my accounting classes was interesting, but definitely a lot more boring than this book is (probably because it was labeled 'Required' which is enough to turn anyone's brain off). The book hasn't gotten quite into all the technical aspects of everything they did wrong, but it's definitely reading like any regular fiction novel. The craziness of it all is the fact that this is REAL. I'm only about 100 pages into this 700 novel, but man it's sucked me in. Those people actually got away with everything they did til it all came crashing down. I think the part I find most interesting is how they convinced the SEC that their accounting practices were founded and a great idea. Seriously - they hoodwinked the agency that was supposed to be monitoring things to make sure they were providing useful and reliable information. Ok, sorry. I just went off into my whole boring accounting world, and I'm sure you all are like 'blah, blah blah' so I will now stop.

Back to Holiday Fun - Thanksgiving is on Saturday this year for my family (so the whole immediate family can attend) so I'm pretty fired up about it. I want to make something fun for dinner - we will have the staples : turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, cranberries - but I want to make something fun and unique to try out. Does anyone have any fantastic Thanksgiving recipe that they must have every year? I want to shake things up a bit and add more color and spunk to the table.

Much to the dismay of my aunt (who doesn't want me to bring anything to Thanksgiving) I'm bringing:
Pumpkin Cheesecake
and
